Theatrical Walks
The Deal Trail of Blood

The Deal Trail of Blood.

The Deal “Trail of Blood” is based around the smuggling history of Deal, and takes place in the conservation area of that town. Historical narrator and guide, Sidney Ignatious Spithurst (or Sid Spit to his friends) was himself a smuggler and knows all the tricks and dodges involved in avoiding the customs officers.
For approximately one and a half hours Sid guides his audience around the picturesque streets and narrow alleys of Deal, proving to be a knowledgeable host.
The Tour begins at the Royal Hotel, where Sid tells tales of the famous people who stayed at the establishment when it was the Three Kings. On his way around the town he bumps into many colorful characters including Mr and Mrs Baker, who are the landlord and lady of the Ship Inn, where a dramatic murder took place, Fanny and Rudy, two stars of the music hall who are waiting for their call outside the building which used to be the Paragon theater, Irish Pete the smuggler and Tom the cabin boy, who have just dropped into the Albert Public House to see the landlord who happens to be a smuggling contact, and many other bizarre and interesting characters from the time of Deals smuggling heyday.
The tour incorporates comedy, songs, and music with history and is suitable for adults and children.

The Bite of Sandwich

A Bite of Sandwich
“A Bite of Sandwich” is another highly popular trail in the Crew of Patches Style. Part comedy entertainment, part historical tour and part sight seeing walk through the historic Cinque Port of Sandwich, this trail combines to provide an evening of top class entertainment.

The tour takes approximately one and a half hours to complete, and Knuckles the Herring Counter will be your guide throughout the route. He proves to be a witty and informative companion - did you know, for instance, that if a man was nominated for the post of mayor in the town of Sandwich and refused the nomination, the townsfolk were then allowed the privilege of pulling down the prospective mayor’s house?!?
Along the route you will meet such diverse characters as Mumps the Muteblower, or Monsieur Le Phew, who is just about to attempt the drowning of Mary Goatudder on suspicion of being a witch. Historical figures also pop up now and again, portraying well known people such as Queen Elizabeth I and of course the famous Earl of Sandwich, who have lived in or visited Sandwich in the past.
Whether your interest lies in the history of the town, an easy ramble through the lesser known areas of the picturesque highways and byways of Sandwich, or if you’re just looking for a bit of fun and laughter the “Bite of Sandwich” walk offers an evening of enjoyment and entertainment which is sure to appeal to all tastes and ages.
